Paul Bateson

Teacher/Creative Practitioner

Paul is a highly experienced teacher who believes in values led education. He has taught for over 10 years in further, secondary and primary settings in Yorkshire and has recently completed an MA (Education) with a focus on employing dramatic techniques including imaginative inquiry and Mantle of the Expert to classroom practice.

He has recently led Drama and been a teaching and learning lead in a secondary school. He is currently a teacher in residence at Castleford Park Junior School working with teachers to develop a dramatic story- based curriculum based on work started with Hywel Roberts.

Paul is currently a tutor on the PGCE Drama programme at University of Huddersfield. He is also part of ITT and NQT training for Wakefield Council and Barnsley-based Positive Regard TSA programmes. He works in the creative arts as a Drama practitioner for Leeds Playhouse, Leeds Grand Theatre and Grimm & Co, Rotherham.

Paul sits on the board of directors of Long Division Festival, Wakefield, and is Education Manager for their work with young people.

Paul writes articles for TES, Drama and Theatre Magazine, and Independent Thinking Press; and writes poetry and plays for the National Trust and Cuckoos Egg Theatre Company. He is currently editing a book of plays for primary schools with Bloomsbury Press.

Through innovative and imaginative projects inside and outside the classroom; Paul’s mission is to provide meaningful cultural experiences for all people regardless of situation.
